Master Julia Cross VII MBE
We are pleased to announce that the ITF icon, Master Julia Cross, will be joining us at Boost Camp 2024!
So... where do we start??
Ms Julia Cross is the most allocated ITF athlete in the world, winning titles in both sparring, pattern and power breaking, and in the era of 1991-2008 she was almost unbeatable in her categories.
We can mention 6 World titles and 15 European titles, 2 Best overall female in the Worlds and 3 Best overall female in the Europeans. She possesses a great amount of knowledge and first-hand experience with both the technical, physical and mental aspects of competition. There have been many great achievements through out the years, but also some disappointments along the way. She has inspired many other athletes through her own success and as a trainer and coach locally, nationally and internationally. She has also previously held seminars around the world, including at a summer camp in Surnadal(Norway) about 10 years ago. To those of you who have met her before, now you have an excellent opportunity for a reunion in beautiful Lunde in Telemark during Boost Camp.
In 1998 Julia Cross founded her current taekwon-do club South Queensferry School of Tae Kwon-Do. She has run this club in parallel with the competition carreer, and with almost 200 students of different ages and levels, running this gym is her full-time job today. The South Queensferry Schoolf of Tae Kwon-Do is located just outside Edinburgh.
In 2010, Ms Cross retired as a competitive athlete, as she had had challenges with both knees and hips for a long time. It was not an easy choice to give up on competition that she has enjoyed so much for many years, and with which many may have identified her. But after several surgeries and even participating in a competition 2 months after a hip surgery, there was in the end sadly no ways for her to continue taekwon-do competition at a high level.
After several surgeries also in recent years, where she has had knees and hips replacements, Ms Cross has been honest that we cannot expect her to be as athletic as she was in her time as an active competitor. On the other hand, she is still extremely knowledgeable and a skilled motivator, so we are really looking forward to welcoming her and getting to know her better during Boost Camp.
Master Julia Cross will teach different sessions in both pattern and sparring and with competition as a consistent theme. This can be as much mental training, experience sharing, speeches, as technical exercises.
We are all guaranteed to sweat, work hard and have fun, and Master Julia Cross will certainly help to inspire you as a taekwon-do practitioner and give you some tools that can help you further on your journey.
After she retired as a competitive athlete, several of her students have won the Worlds and Europeans, so her sessions during Boost Camp will surely be of use to both national team athletes and those of you who just want to start competing and enjoy taekwon-do in general .
Ms Cross started training taekwon-do aged 11 under Grand Master Sheena Sutherland in Linlithgow. She has kept it going all the time since, and in 2023 Julia was graded to 7th Dan black belt and Master title.

In 2020, Master Julia Cross was awarded the honorary MBE (Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) for her efforts for taekwon-do over 30 years, and as the world's most winning ITF individual.
